Judging Day in Boroughbridge

image016We had a great morning. Our judges turned up on time just before it started to drizzle. Joanne from HBC Parks Dept. came along to give us support.
We started in the car park and walked to Hall Square  to view the Butter-market. I then drove them to the Junior Schoolpassing the two troughs that we have taken on – one in the High Street and the other at the junction of Aldborough road.
The Millennium Garden at the Junior school has been neglected over the years and we are reviving it with the help of the school. We then passed the High School and explained some of the student were growing vegetables and that would be on show when the Judges return on the 15th July (Please make a note in your diary).

The drive took us past Morrison’s roundabout where we were pleased to see that Charlton’s have at last made a start on planting.
By the time we arrived at the Community Allotments the rain was getting into full flow. Our two guides were great at explaining all the conservation things that were being done as well as the usual activities. A short drive to Stump Cross Roundabout followed to show them the flower beds and poppies.  One of the judges commented that she is always impressed whenever she sees this area as it’s the first thing people see when entering the town from the South.
In the last few weeks we have taken on the rather tired rose garden opposite Charlton’s and we have set this up for a good display of roses this year. We left our “Pièce de Résistance”, Chatsworth Road till last where the judges were very impressed and Denise, one of the judges, had seen this area when we had just cleared it and it was bare earth.

We said we had on order red white and blue flowers for the rockery especially for the Queen’s birthday.
All of our guides for the day and other member of our group met in the Jubilee room for a drink and cakes made by our members. I’m sure they were all impressed with our display and the portfolio we had produced for the day.
Thank you to all those who took part to day and please come and join us if you can. Its more good fun than hard work !!
